Freetech Junior Talent Cup

April 2024 saw Joshua head over to Teeside Autodrome for Round 1 of the Freetech Junior Talent Cup.

Me and dad were guests in the PowertechUK Awning for the weekend. Huge thanks to Simon Cope for letting me try out his well-built GSXR125. This was an adult spec bike that had been downgraded to a standard spec engine / electronics to comply with the Junior regs, so the suspension was set up for an adult, but it was great fun! On the second day we softened everything off as far as it would go which helped me get a good feeling on the front end, but the back was still a little light but controllable. Having not raced a GP Bike since November 2022 and never anything this heavy, I was pleasantly surprised with my pace compared to the more experienced guys at the front. I qualified 4th and finished all three races in 4th position with my best time being only 1.4 seconds off the fastest lap of the weekend which was a new Lap record set by Arnie Carr! Not bad considering I haven’t been to Teeside for a couple of years and only having ridden this type of bike during the same weekends Friday practice.

Huge thanks to Arnie Carr and Alliance Steel Services Ltd for the fantastic opportunity of joining their Team for Saturdays Endurance Race, it was an awesome experience and we finished in 3rd place!

Got some thinking to do now and my Dad needs to have a conversation with Simon so we can decide if we can commit to this championship and endurance series.
