MATCH REPORT: Wimborne Town 0-0 Hanworth Villa

A week on from Wimborne’s first victory of the campaign, the Magpies returned home to share the points in a goalless draw against newly promoted Hanworth Villa.

Tim Sills made three changes to the starting lineup which won in Worcestershire, with Seung-Woo Yang and Joe Smith returning after their second half strikes and Finley Toghill replacing the injured Max Bustamante.

Hanworth Villa have started the season in style, sitting in the top four in the early stages on 10 points, however the Magpies will likely feel disappointed to not take all three points after creating the better chances in front of their home crowd.

On 12 minutes Will Fletcher narrowly missed the first real chance of the match, latching onto Harvey Wright’s flick on from Cam Sullivan's free kick delivery, only to see his header beat the keeper but not the crossbar, with Tyler Edmondson sending the follow up over.

Toghill was causing a lot of problems down the right-hand side for the Villains defence, with his marker at times on ice skates trying to keep up with his twists and turns on the touchline, however the first period had very little goalmouth action, with nothing splitting the sides. Other than Charlie Wooding firing over on the half-hour mark, as well as Kai Crampton well-position to make a couple of comfortable stops down the other end, the opening 45 minutes had little other chances of note.

Arguably the best chance of the match came in the 64th minute. A Villains free kick was well dealt with before sending Charlie Wooding on a quick counter, carrying the ball upfield and slipping a through ball into the path of Joe Smith. With memories of his goal at Malvern still fresh in the mind, Smith again dinked the onrushing keeper, but this time his effort lacked legs, and span the wrong side of the post.

Josh Carmichael, who had only come on within the last few minutes, almost put Wimborne one up when his cross-come-shot took the keeper by surprise, with the ball soaring just over the bar and onto the top of the net.

Cam Sullivan came close with ten to go when Will Fletcher showed good strength to set him up on the volley, the fullback struck first time but the ball blazed just past the post with the keeper rooted to the spot.

That proved to be the final chance of the match, with a resilient Hanworth Villa keeping the Magpies quiet for the remainder of the game, with the points shared. Next up is a quick turnaround for the Magpies with London calling, and a trip to Uxbridge on Bank Holiday Monday.
