MATCH PREVIEW: Wimborne Town vs Hanworth Villa

For our fifth fixture, we face a fourth team new to Premier South for this season – Hanworth Villa. The Villains have had a really successful last five campaigns: in 2021-22 they won the Combined Counties Premier North to earn promotion to Step 4; in 2022-23 they reached the play-off final in Isthmian South Central, losing out to Walton & Hersham; they finished seventh the next season; before they again reached the play-off final in 2024-25, this time losing to Uxbridge; then last season they finished third, going on to win the play-off final against Westfield.

 

Manager Simon Haughney’s team has made a great start to their first season at Step 3, winning three of their opening four matches: Taunton (h) W 2-0; Gosport (a) W 1-0; Bath (a) L 0-1; Evesham (h) W 4-1 – results which leave them third in the embryonic league table, just a point behind early pace-setters Chertsey and Uxbridge. A player to watch is Michael Harding, a striker in form with four goals from those four games.

 

After goal-less defeats against Frome and Chichester, Tim’s team took the momentum of Charlie’s late, late equaliser against pre-season title favourites Gloucester into Saturday’s match on Malvern’s 3G. After a long, long journey goals by Fletch, Seuny and Smudge were just reward for a hard-working team performance which brought a first clean sheet - McQuoid was majestic, Wooding was willing, Lewis was lively, and Fin was flying. The downside, of course, was Max’s hamstring injury which could well see him side-lined for a few weeks. With no Ben Scorey, and now no Max, Tim’s options are limited as he juggles his diminishing squad for a testing two games in fifty hours against two of the top three teams in the table, although Josh Carmichael should be available again.

 

Our first-ever fixture against Hanworth has all the ingredients for being a competitive cracker. Will The Magpies bag a first league win at The Wyatt Homes Stadium; will The Villains continue their impressive start to life at Step 3; which kit will Wimborne wear? Be the first to answer those imponderables by coming down to the Wyatt Homes Stadium. After all, it’s what Saturday afternoons were made for.

  • As there's limited parking at the ground in Ainsley Road BH21 2FU, if you can travel by bus, bike, or on foot it would be really helpful. If you do decide to travel by car and park on the nearby streets, please do so respectfully to our neighbours.
  • The Morebus no.13 runs along Leigh Road between The Square in the town centre and Ferndown and Bournemouth with stops at the bottom of Parmiter Road, a five-minute stroll from the ground.
  • There is a bike park near the players' entrance.
