MATCH REPORT: Malvern Town 0-3 Wimborne Town

Wimborne Town claimed their first victory of the season with a 3-0 win in Worcestershire over Malvern Town, with Fletcher, Yang and Smith on target to bring the points back to Dorset.

Both the Magpies and the Hillsiders have had a slow start to the season, with both sides yet to find a win from three, so victory on the road was vital for Wimborne.

Manager Tim Sills made three changes to his starting eleven that drew against Gloucester last Saturday, with Charlie Wooding coming in for Cam Munn, Harvey Wright for Josh Carmichael and Kai Crampton back in between the sticks.

Early pressure from the Magpies was brought to a halt when Sills was forced into an early change after Max Bustamante’s hamstring injury in the eighth minute - we wish Max a speedy recovery!

Finley Toghill, who impressed in pre-season, came on as his replacement. The winger wouldn’t be waiting long to make an impact, weaving around his man and forcing a corner moments after his introduction.

Malvern were also forced into an early substitution as Reece King couldn’t continue, with Matt Fulloway his replacement. The Hillsiders would have thought they took the lead right on the half-hour mark if not for a great save from Kai Crampton, who got down well to his left to push away a free kick from the edge of the box at the expense of a corner.

Up the other end, Toghill again was causing trouble down the right hand side, twisting and turning and winning a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, with the following cross nodded just wide by Tyler Edmondson.

The Magpies wouldn’t be waiting much longer to take the lead. Josh McQuoid won the ball back in midfield, which was followed by some quick play between Toghill and Lewis Williams, who whipped in an inch-perfect cross, finding the head of Will Fletcher who made no mistake.

One nearly became two, when moments later Toghill, once more, drove in from the right hand side, flicking a shot inches beyond the far post and into the stands. Fletcher also came close to grabbing his brace before the break but, with the angle tightening, lost his balance after rounding the keeper and fired wide.

Malvern’s closest chance up to this point came from a looping cross which found a head in the danger area, which beat both Crampton and the crossbar, landing on the roof of the net.

Sills made some second half swaps to add some much-needed energy, with Joe Smith, Cam Munn, Seung-woo Yang and Billy Walker tasked with ensuring the points stayed with the Magpies.

A tactical masterclass, and an instant impact from Seuny, saw the Magpies double their lead in the 87th minute. Yang found space at the edge of the box, planting his foot and calmly placing his shot into the bottom corner past Adam Harrison.

It really did became a match to remember for the supersubs, with Smith finding himself one-on-one after a flick-on by Fletcher, again making no mistake with an acute, dinked finish to put the game beyond all doubt.

The Magpies secured all three points on the road with a convincing display that will give them plenty of confidence going forward. A much needed first win of the 2026/27 campaign will hopefully kick this season off from here. Thank you for all your support on the road once more Magpies!
