The Context
Pre-season is done and dusted and competitive action is back as Hebburn compete in as a National League North side for the first time in their history, welcoming Southport to the Trustmark Group Stadium.
Last weekend, Hebburn ran out 4-2 winners over Blyth Spartans with Jake Charles bagging a hat trick and Gildo Da Silva getting on the score sheet.
Captain Aidan Heywood is available after missing last weekend’s fixture after his recent wedding as the Hornets have a near fully fit squad to choose from. Jack Donaghy, who was announced as Vice Captain this week starts his 10th season as a senior player, having now respected the Hornets at five different levels.
Hebburn were boosted this week after securing the signings of Alfie Henderson from Salford City and Isaac Allen on loan from Sunderland.
Neil Dann’s Southport side have been in the National League North since 2017 when they were last relegated from the National League. Having finished 14th last season he will be hoping to build on that this campaign. Last weekend the Sandgrounders played out a goalless draw at home to Wigan Athletic.
Manager’s Pre-Match Thoughts
Hebburn Manager Daniel Moore spoke to the press ahead of the match, commenting, “we’ll give our opponents the right respect, but we’ll fear no-one.” Moore was in good spirits during Thursday’s press conference, noting on the new faces in the squad that, “we’ll have signed a double digit number of new players and I’ve never done that before, but they’ve all done well pre-season and we’ve signed players with experience at this level, like Elliot Forbes and Tom Allan.”
Moore spoke about the preparation for the new season. In response to a question about whether preparation has changed due to facing full time opposition, he said, “the club have been fantastic to be fair. We’ve got a new coach and we’ll be staying overnight for some of the games, which will help. We’ll balance that with thinking about what time we leave so we’re not having to ask the lads to take leave from their jobs on a Friday.”

Visiting Supporters
Visiting supporters should note that segregation will not be in place for this fixture. We have turnstiles available on North Drive, South Drive and Victoria Road West. Please note that the main car park is reserved for players and club officials only. There is limited parking on North and South Drive and additional spaces outside the ground on Victoria Road West, however spaces are limited and some restrictions are in place. We’d encourage supporters to park in the town centre, which offers free parking and is only 5-10 minutes walk to the ground.
Inside there are food and drink options from the Victoria Road End snack bar and from the Hungry Hornet to the side of the Sports Club and the downstairs bar area is also open for public access.
