Portishead Town vs Ivybridge Town

The wait is finally over.

After months of preparation, Portishead Town begin their 2026/27 Western League Premier Division campaign on Saturday as Ivybridge Town make the trip to Bristol Road for the opening league fixture of the season.

With Posset Day providing the backdrop, it's set to be a memorable afternoon both on and off the pitch. Activities get underway from 12:30pm, with family entertainment, football, food and music leading into the 3:00pm kick-off as the Posset look to begin the new campaign in front of a bumper home crowd.

Following a positive pre-season, excitement is building around Bristol Road as a refreshed squad prepares to embark on a season full of fresh opportunities.

The Opposition

Ivybridge Town arrive having finished 13th in last season's Western League Premier Division and will be looking to make a positive start to their own campaign.

Recent meetings between the sides have produced contrasting results. Ivybridge claimed a 3-0 victory on home soil during the 2024/25 season, before Portishead responded emphatically with an 8-0 win at Bristol Road later that campaign. On that occasion, captain Kyle Egan stole the headlines with a memorable hat-trick.

With both sides beginning the season on a clean slate, Saturday promises to be another competitive encounter.

Mountford: "A New Chapter"

Manager Kye Mountford says the focus is firmly on the future as the club turns the page and begins a new season.

"Today is about new beginnings, a new chapter and looking forward. We've worked extremely hard throughout pre-season, there's a real sense of excitement around the group and we can't wait to get going."

The management team and players have spent the summer laying the foundations for the season ahead, and Mountford is eager to see that hard work put into practice when the league campaign gets underway.

He also reserved special praise for the supporters, whose backing continues to drive the squad.

"We really appreciate everyone coming out to support us. It means the world to the players and staff. Enjoy the game, get behind the lads and make some noise."

Egan: "Ready for the Challenge"

Captain Kyle Egan has been equally encouraged by what he has seen throughout pre-season and believes the squad is well prepared for the challenges ahead.

"Pre-season has been positive and the attitude and commitment shown by the squad have been excellent. We've got a healthy mix of experienced players and exciting new additions who are already settling in."

The skipper knows Portishead will face a different challenge this season, but insists the standards within the dressing room remain unchanged.

"We know it's going to be a difficult season and we'll have a target on our back, but the standard at this club is to win games of football—starting on Saturday."
