Coach Baker extends his commitment to Hemel Storm

Hemel Storm are delighted to confirm Tom Baker has signed a new two-year deal as our Head Coach and Club Programme Development Lead. 

Tom assumed the men’s Head Coach role in January, having joined the club as assistant just before the turn of the year. 

He inspired a significant upturn in performances and results, his side claiming four wins out of their last five and six in their final nine to finish the campaign just one spot outside the playoff places. 

In this extended strategic role, Tom will continue to direct our BCB men’s coaching team, while importantly taking on a wider responsibility in supporting other stakeholders to shape the next stages in the development of our whole basketball programme.

This remit will include our BCB men's team, our national league women’s team, our soon to be re-launched junior programmes, as well as our key partnership with the University of Hertfordshire.

Baker said: “I’m incredibly proud to extend my commitment to Hemel Storm. 

“From the moment I stepped into the role, it was clear how much this club means to its players and fans, to our wonderful sponsors and incredible volunteers as well as the wider community. 

“My immediate focus is on helping return the BCB team to where it belongs - competing for titles - but the bigger opportunity is to build something with real clarity, energy and ambition across the whole Storm programme. 

“We have the chance to connect and plan for further success for our men’s and women’s senior teams, while growing our junior pathway, and offering and developing our University of Hertfordshire partnership in an exciting way - all driving more people to be part of Hemel Storm. 

“I’m grateful for the trust that the club’s management team have shown in me, and I’m excited for the work ahead.”

Baker’s announcement marks the start of an ambitious off-season, the club wasting no time in their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign. 

Chairman Tony Humphrey added: “I think last season we all enjoyed the momentum that Tom quickly created, alongside an environment that players and fans immediately embraced. 

“This two-year approach delivers stability for players (returnees as well as those to be newly recruited), and importantly the wider organisation. 

“I am especially excited by Tom’s wider planning role and how we can grow our programme for everyone who wishes to become involved in our great club.”
