Hemel Storm Men's Team & Club Awards
What a season it’s been!
Not necessarily the season we would have liked but everyone at the Club would like to say thanks to all the fans for your support. It’s easy to support a winning team, but when a team is having hard times, support can waiver.
You have kept turning up in great numbers and supported the team in a disappointing campaign and it’s really appreciated. We enjoyed the good times together and have endured the bad times together. Which is what support should be. So, thank you all!
We certainly went out in style at the final home game, a sell-out crowd, a huge win, a final farewell to Jack and we presented our men's team awards.
Here are the award winners this season:
COACHES’ PLAYER OF THE SEASON - BRAYDEN INGER
Head Coach Tom Baker said:
Since I took over all I ever asked for was full commitment to us and what we were trying to do. This player has demonstrated that throughout our time together. He has consistently top scored for us and has sparked our runs in games. He’s one of the most important players in this team and has been a pleasure to coach.
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER - DARIEN NELSON-HENRY
Head Coach Tom Baker said:
This player has been the anchor for us. His impact goes beyond numbers - he’s brought consistency, composure and presence on both sides of the court, especially in the moments that matter most.
Down the stretch of games, he’s stepped up, made big plays and found ways to influence winning - whether that’s scoring, getting to the line, or making the right play under pressure. He’s been central to the wins we’ve had this season, and fully deserves to be our MVP.
PLAYERS’ PLAYER - JOINT WINNERS DARIEN NELSON-HENRY & KAI WALKER
This season the vote from our players was a tie, so therefore presented two players with this award.
Darien's teammates described him as an all-around great player who consistently delivers on the court. A supportive and reliable teammate who elevates everyone around him. As a leader, he sets the standard through both his actions and attitude, inspiring others to give their best. Off the court he’s a great bloke too.
Kai's teammates described him as the most consistent player all season on both ends of the floor, aside from his injury setback. He trains very well and brings great energy to practice. While he does enjoy his time on the massage table, once his treatment is finished, he’s fully locked in and ready to go. Great teammate!
FANS’ PLAYER OF THE SEASON - BRAYDEN INGER
The comments from fans consistently praised this player’s overall impact, leadership, consistency and ability to energise the team. Also highlighted his scoring, defensive contributions, and crowd-pleasing style.
VOLUNTEER OF THE SEASON - TOM & LILY FREDERICK
This award is given to somebody who has contributed their time and energy to the Club as a volunteer. Often unnoticed and doing much more than anyone truly realises.
The award this year goes to a couple! They have been at the heart of Storm Women from the outset and we should all be proud of their tireless efforts in championing the drive to fast track our women’s team into title contenders in a very short space of time. They have done so much behind the scenes with games and training for our women's team and the atmosphere they’ve built at home games at St Columba's has made it a tough place to come and a big part of our wins.
Once again, thank you to everyone involved in the Club and we look forward to seeing you back at the StormDome in September.
