MATCH PREVIEW: Tiverton Town vs Wimborne Town

Wimborne Town FC | 12 April 2026 | Copy link
Wimborne Town will look to build on their last away win in the Dorset Derby against Poole, hoping for their first consecutive away win in the Southern League Premier South since February 2019, as they pay a visit to relegated Tiverton Town.

It’s been a season to forget for Tivvy, who sit rock bottom on 18 points, less than half that of Hungerford in 21st, and have already conceded triple-digit goals with four games left to play. - W5 D3 L30 GF36 GA100. The Devon club is on a four-game losing streak, having recently lost 8-0 at the weekend to Bracknell Town.

Having stabilised themselves in the division for nearly a decade, Tiverton’s narrow, single-point escape last season was more than just a sign of things to come, as their nine-year stint in Step Three will come to an end in two weeks.

With the tie having originally been scheduled in the winter, a series of postponements, due to cup-ties and a waterlogged pitch, saw the meeting at the Wyatt Homes Stadium lap the away tie in terms of order, ending in a 0-0 draw after a low-key affair in the middle of March.

Wimborne narrowly lost to promotion hopefuls Berkhamsted last weekend. The 1-0 home defeat meant that Tim Sills’ side have failed to score in over half of their previous seven games. Although, there are encouraging signs, as they have bagged five in their last two matches on the road.

After the dramatic derby win at the BlackGold Stadium, the Magpies have an opportunity to win back-to-back away games in Step Three for the first time in over seven years. Coincidentally, Tiverton was the team they overcame to achieve this feat in early 2019.

Three points for Wimborne at the Slee Blackwell Solicitors Stadium will take the Magpies five points clear of the relegation zone and will rise back up to 13th for a minimum of 48 hours.

It was three points apiece for the two sides in 2024/25, both winning their home games. Sills’ men were 3-0 victors at the Wyatt Homes Stadium in October, with two of the goalscorers, Will Fletcher and Josh Carmichael, still at the club. Meanwhile, Tivvy narrowly won 1-0 in the return fixture in January.

Tiverton Town have been present in all six of the Magpies’ seasons in the Southern League Premier South, something that will change come August should Wimborne secure safety.

The weather forecast says there is a chance of rain in Devon, so don’t forget to bring your raincoats just in case! Come cheer on the boys in (hopefully) our last Tuesday night outing of the season!
