MATCH PREVIEW: Uxbridge vs Wimborne Town
For the second successive Saturday, Wimborne travel east to Greater London, this time for a first-ever visit to Honeycroft, the home of Uxbridge with its 3G pitch. Last season, when The Reds finished runners-up to Farnham in Isthmian South Central Division, they earned their first promotion in 40 years via the play-offs. 2025-26 is the club’s first season at Step 3.
Both Wimborne and Uxbridge made a decent start to this campaign, and both flirted with the play-off spots for a while. However, 2026 didn’t start particularly well for either team with the two of them winning just once in their first six fixtures of the new year: Uxbridge winning 2-0 at Dorchester, Wimborne defeating Hanwell 3-0 at The Wyatt Homes Stadium. But since then, the form of the two teams has been very different.
Uxbridge have won four and drawn one of their last five fixtures, banging in seventeen goals: Weymouth 5-1 at home, Havant & Waterlooville 3-0 at home, Hungerford 4-0 away, Evesham 2-2 at home, and, on Saturday a remarkable 3-2 come-back win at promotion-targetting Gloucester after being 2-0 behind on 38 minutes. Manager Danny Edwards, in his fifth season in charge, set a target of 46 points to stay in the division, and his team achieved that with seven games remaining. They now sit ninth with a W13 D11 L12 GF 62 GA 60 record. In the current form table, they lie second behind champions-in-waiting Walton & Hersham.
In contrast, Wimborne have gleaned a mere four goals and two points from their last five fixtures: a 1-1 draw at Yate, a 3-2 loss at Plymouth Parkway, a goal-less draw at home to Tiverton, a 4-1 home loss to Walton, and, on Saturday a 3-0 loss at Chertsey. Although those results don’t reflect the performances, it’s goals that count. Consequently, Tim’s team has slipped to 14th with a W10 D12 L13 GF 47 GA 51 record; on our travels it’s W2 D5 L10. And in the current form table we’re 16th with a W1 D2 L3 record.
In the reverse fixture back in August, Wimborne cruised to a 2-0 first-half lead through Joe Smith and Josh Carmichael. But “in a game of two halves”, a triple half-time substitution and a motivating team-talk galvanised the visitors who dominated the second period to equalise through Nwachuku and Tack.
Who should we keep an eye on at Honeycroft? George Moore for one – he’s netted six times in the last five games, and has fifteen league goals this season. Skipper CJ Fearn, in central defence, joined from National South Farnborough and last season was both the supporters’ and players’ choice as ‘player of the season’.
For Wimborne Ethan Sills has belied his age in his three appearances, and Rafa Ramos made his debut off the bench at Chertsey. Manager Sills hinted that there may be another fresh face or two before this week’s signing deadline, so keep an eye on the Club website and social media for news.
On paper, The Reds are red-hot favourites to take all three points. But, as Jimmy Greaves once said, “it’s a funny old game”. By the law of averages, Wimborne’s run of misfortune with injuries and goal attempts must end soon, and this Saturday would be a good time for that.
