MATCH PREVIEW: Wimborne Town vs Hanwell Town

Wimborne Town FC | 12 February 2026 | Copy link
After a saturated 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in November when our Max Bustamante equalised, a run of four consecutive defeats saw Hanwell slide into the relegation zone.

However, Mohamed Bettamer’s 96th minute penalty on Christmas Saturday grabbed a point against Uxbridge to set The Geordies on a run of three wins, two draws, and a single defeat which has lifted them a point and two places clear of the bottom four. They now sit 17th with a W8 D6 L12 GF 34 GA 40 record; on their travels it’s W4 D2 L8. They also won twice on the road in the FA Trophy. In your match previewer’s opinion, these are Hanwell’s greatest hits of 2025-26:

  • 5 – They scored five at Hungerford
  • 4 – In their most recent league game they won 4-1 at Dorchester
  • 3 – They won 3-2 at National North Merthyr in the FA Trophy Round Two
  • 2 – They won 2-0 at Isthmian Premier St Albans in the FA Trophy Round One
  • 1 – They were the first team to defeat Walton & Hersham in the league, 1-0 at home.

Following a 1-1 draw at home to Poole on 10th January, Chris Moore’s men have won their three most recent matches: 2-0 at Tiverton, 2-1 at home to Gosport, then that 4-1 at Dorchester. Those results have zoomed The Geordies up the current form (last six games) table to second, with just The Dolphins ahead of them.

Listening to the former Dorchester manager’s post-match interview after that game with Hanwell, The Geordies played to their physical strengths with a series of long throws, corners and free-kicks, so we might see similar tactics on what is bound to be a heavy surface on Saturday. Their skipper is goalkeeper Sam Beasant, while Alfie Pendlebury is a striker who knows where the net is.

After going three weeks without a game, Wimborne made their longest league trip of the season on Saturday to Evesham. A disappointing first-half saw them concede twice before a dominant second half performance, with just a Will Fletcher goal as reward, almost bagged a point. Another missed penalty continued an unfortunate sequence. Maybe the soft ground has something to do with it as Hanwell missed three penalties in their London Senior Cup tie shoot-out at Erith on Tuesday.

Tim’s team have now gone 10 league matches without a win after defeating Gosport back in November. That run includes six draws to leave The Magpies 14th in the table that matters with a W8 D10 L7 GF 37 GA 31 record; at the Wyatt Homes Stadium it’s W6 D6 L1. Despite facing a team in form, there are reasons to be cheerful – one, two, three:

  • 1. We’re playing at home with fantastic home support
  • 2. We’re having loads of attempts on goal – 14 in the second-half at Evesham
  • 3. We’ve never lost to Hanwell – last season 1-0 at home, 2-2 away, this season 1-1 away.

Hanwell is a proper non-league club with some great people among their officials and supporters, so we’re looking forward to welcoming them for only their second visit to Wimborne. With the scene set for a cracking competitive game with both teams wanting the points, come on down to The Wyatt Homes Stadium and cheer the boys on. And, as it’s Valentines Day, why not bring that special someone with you. However, with all the recent rain, do check the Club’s website and socials in case there’s the need for a pitch inspection.
