Match Preview | Weymouth vs Wimborne Town

Happy New Year Terras fans.

Perhaps surprisingly given our close proximity, this is only our 39th meeting in all games against the New-Cuthbery-based-outfit.

However, following this game, almost one fifth of our tussles will have been in just the last three campaigns!

Our first fixture in 2026 will also be our fourth this season against the black and white stripes under a third different manager, the visitors claiming the majority of the spoils so far from a 3-0 victory in the league back in August followed by a 2-0 success in the FA Trophy in October. The only Terras success against this side in 2025/26 to date was the recent 4-2 win in the Dorset Senior cup.

Last season however Wimborne took the spoils in the county cup, a thumping 8-1 success, their record win over the Terras with both sides featuring youth players. This followed a 3-2 friendly win for the claret & blues back in the summer.

Before this our most recent meetings were pre-season friendlies in the summers of 2019, 2020 . Looking slightly further back, we played the magpies over a pair of league fixtures in our 2018/19 Southern league title campaign. Harry Baker came off the bench to score the only goal of the game at home in October before the sides played out a 0-0 draw in east Dorset in March.

The 1980’s & 1990’s saw a spate of games between the two in various local competitions, most noticeably nine Dorset Senior cup ties when our opponents progressed just the once.

Our first ever meeting was back in the 1922/23 Dorset league season – a brace of wins for Weymouth.
