Welcome to Throstle Nest
Back to the future: FC Farsley can confirm a change in the name of its stadium and surrounding facilities. Here's why we took that decision:
FC Farsley Sports Club is proud to confirm a change in the name of our facilities to Throstle Nest.
The stadium and surrounding facilities were originally known as Throstle Nest, and one of the first decisions by new owners the Stockdale family and FC Farsley’s board was to change the name back.
“We have listened to what supporters have been telling us, as well as the wider community, and we are delighted to have Throstle Nest as the name of our facilities once more,” the board said.
“We know the name has rich significance for many people in Farsley, we’ve listened and we are proud to restore the name which has a special place in the heart of so many. It’s about getting back to our roots and being at the heart of our community as we enter a new era.”
Football in Farsley has been based at Throstle Next since 1948 when the land was bought from the council. The first game played at the Nest was later that year against Frickley Athletic.
According to the Collins English Dictionary, a Throstle is both a poetic name for the thrush, especially the song thrush. It is also a spinning machine for wool or cotton in which the fibres are twisted and wound continuously. The latter taps into Farsley’s rich textile history.
