MATCH PREVIEW: Weymouth vs Wimborne Town
On Saturday both managers, Tim Sills and Steve Claridge, struggled to field a full bench for their league fixtures. Wimborne, with three youngsters in the dugout, and an even younger on loan keeper, came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Sholing. Weymouth also had someone different between the posts with outfield-player Calvin Brooks donning the gloves. They were without former Magpies Matty Burrows and Oakley Hanger, and had just two on the bench as The Terras went down 4-0 at Chertsey.
We don’t know how the respective managers view the importance of this DSC tie, so it's difficult to second guess their starting line-ups. For Wimborne, Tim Sills, in Saturday’s post-match interview, hinted that there’ll be some rotation, and some youngsters from the Club given a chance to shine, just as they were in the 5-2 win at Hamworthy Recreation in the previous round when Ajani Burchall, Joe Smith (two) and Fin Toghill (two) scored. On the same evening, Weymouth also netted five times as they knocked out Bridport 5-4. In his post-match interview on Saturday, Steve Claridge talked about three or more likely arrivals this week, who presumably will be straight into The Terras Team on Tuesday. We can be sure, however, that whichever players are chosen by both managers, they will do their best to impress the boss.
Weymouth are the current holders of the DSC after defeating Ham Rec 2-1 in last season’s Final. You may recall that The Terras also defeated The Magpies in the Quarter-Final (3-0) which was notable for being the 618th and final game of Arnie’s Wimborne career. The last time Wimborne won this Cup was in 2017-18.
If scores are level at the end of 90+ minutes, there will be a penalty shoot-out to decide which team takes their place in the final four.
In view of all the recent heavy rain, and impending yellow weather warnings for rain and wind, we suggest that you check that the game is still on before travelling.
