The Late Late Show

On a frosty Saturday night under the Cyncoed floodlights, The Archers welcomed in-form Flint Town United for what promised to be an exciting JD Cymru Premier clash in front of the S4C cameras.

Met began brightly, dominating possession in the early exchanges despite the transitional and tense nature of the opening half. However, it was the visitors who struck first — Elliot Reeves putting Flint ahead after 22 minutes with a well-taken finish.

Met responded well, with wing-back Sam Jones looking lively down the right. Their persistence paid off just nine minutes later when frontman Adam Roscrow levelled the score with a composed strike in the 31st minute.

Met pushed for a second before the break but were forced to settle for parity at half-time.

Half-time: Cardiff Met 1–1 Flint Town

Early in the second half, centre-half Sam Richards picked up a knock and was replaced by the returning Joel Edwards, whose experience helped steady the Met back line as Flint applied pressure. The visitors enjoyed a spell of possession, but Met gradually regained control.

In the 78th minute, Jasper Payne replaced Adam Roscrow, adding fresh energy up front. By the 80th minute, Met were in full flow and pressing hard for a winner.

Their breakthrough came in the 83rd minute after a superb team move involving Met’s forward line and midfield. Captain CJ Craven delivered a pinpoint left-footed cross from the right edge of the box, met powerfully by Sam Jones, who headed back across goal into the far corner. 2–1 Met.

Just moments later, Lewis Rees came on for Eliot Evans, and within three minutes made an instant impact — curling a clever low free-kick under the wall and into the keeper’s bottom-right corner to make it 3–1.

Flint threw everyone forward in stoppage time, with their goalkeeper venturing up to take a late free-kick. The delivery was cleared by Craven into the path of Matthew Chubb, who surged toward halfway. Spotting the keeper scrambling back, Chubb unleashed an audacious strike from around 50 yards — the ball sailing over the retreating goalkeeper and into the top corner. A potential goal of the season, and the perfect exclamation mark on a dominant performance.

A five-star display from the Archers, who extend their unbeaten run to six matches and climb into the top half of the table.
