Seniors beat Marlow 4-0 whilst Burton’s Boys draw 1-1

It was a good night in yellow as Ascot United breezed into the next round of the Berks and Bucks County cup by pouring more misery on local rivals Marlow as the Under 18’s scored a last minute equaliser in their concurrent friendly.

At The Racecourse, Joden Trickett (pictured, shooting-stars.co.uk) got off the scoring mark in the 14th minute when he bundled home on the rebound after his earlier header from man-of-the match Babs Dehghani’s corner was blocked on the line.

Trickett might have added a second in the 36th minute but was brought down as he pulled the trigger, although Jaheim Kamara was on hand to fire home number two.

Marlow were poor and would eventually concede four goals for the fourth game on the trot; Andrio Brandao making it three following a great passing move just before the hour mark before Khalid Simmo and substitute Lamin Ceesay linked up in the 81st minute for the former to fire home with the outside of his boot.

In between those goals there was a welcome return from injury for Harvey Harry, who got 30 minutes’ action as one of five substitutes used.

The win set up a rematch with Hungerford Town in the 3rd round in week commencing 10th November; the West Berkshire side having recorded a comeback win at The Racecourse last season.

Meanwhile, David Burton’s Under 18 side continue to impress and they scored a 90th minute equaliser in a friendly at Bedfont. Commenting after the game, Burton simply said “what a shift”.

The home side took a 77th minute lead, but “with six lads rested from the Windsor win, eight changes at HT, and still we bossed it against Bedfont’s Isthmian First Team. More possession. More corners. More shots. More heart. Only their keeper (who looked about 30!) kept it from being 4-1 or 5-1. A late equaliser from Theo, after a Bedfont goal from a Corner against the run of play, sealed what felt like our game from start to finish. The attitude, energy and belief from every single player was top class.”

Burton was rightly buzzing.

“That’s what squad depth looks like. That’s what competition for places feels like. And that’s what Ascot United football is all about. Everyone contributed. Everyone raised the standard. Keep pushing.”
