Cardiff Met put in a plucky away performance to hold on for a draw at the Blue Turtle Arena on Saturday afternoon.

In front of a crowd of over 900, the game began in a cagey fashion with both sides struggling to create any chances of note. It was the home side who were first to threaten, forcing young goalkeeper Sam Seager – making his fourth consecutive JD Cymru Premier start – into a smart save on the line following a dangerous corner.

This seemed to spark a sustained period of pressure for the Seagulls, and in the 35th minute, a slick move down the right-hand side saw a cross floated into the box. Jordan Davies rose highest but could only direct his header onto the bar and away to safety.

This was the biggest chance of the half, and after 45 minutes, both sides went in level at the break.

The second half continued in much the same way as the first, with Colwyn Bay applying pressure and testing Seager, who stood firm amid a flurry of aerial deliveries into the box.

However, in the 61st minute, Met created their first meaningful chance. Mwandwe broke clear down the left-hand side and provided a pull-back to strike partner Roscrow, however, his shot went safely into the arms of keeper Brown.

Payne and Lewis Rees soon entered the match, but not before Colwyn Bay once again rattled the Met crossbar – this time through an Aaron Williams header.

Despite sustained pressure, the Archers’ defensive resilience – led by the composed Seager – kept the hosts at bay. A tactical tweak saw Met look increasingly dangerous on the counter, and they almost snatched victory late on when Payne broke through on goal, only to be denied by the keeper before being flagged for offside.

As we approached the end of the match, Owen Davies blazed over from the edge of the area before, Seager was once again called into a fine save, clawing away an effort from Ethan Roberts that was destined for the top corner.

The Archers successfully held on, and the game finished 0-0, extending their unbeaten run to 4 games.

Next up, the Archers return to Cyncoed for JD Welsh Cup Round 2 action against Taffs Well FC, with tickets on sale now!
