Bala Blown Away by the Archers: Cardiff Met 2–0 Bala Town

Cardiff Met made it back-to-back victories on Saturday afternoon, defeating fourth-placed Bala Town 2–0 in treacherous, windy conditions at Cyncoed Campus.

Looking to build on last weekend’s huge three points, the Archers came out firing against their high-flying opponents. After winning the toss, Met chose to play with the wind at their backs for the first 45 minutes - a decision that quickly paid off.

The hosts dominated the opening stages, keeping Bala pinned inside their own half despite the occasional counterattack threat from the North Walians.

In the 16th minute, Met broke the deadlock. Midfield maestro Harri John orchestrated a well-worked move before his deflected shot fell kindly to Ryan Reynolds, who struck a crisp half-volley low into the bottom corner.

Just seven minutes later, fortune favoured Met again. Bala goalkeeper Torrance attempted to clear the ball long from just outside his box, but his kick hung in the gale-force wind and dropped straight back towards goal. As the ball bounced awkwardly, wingback Mendes could only glance it with the top of his head - looping it over his stranded keeper and into the net.

Despite sustained pressure, Met couldn’t extend their lead before the break, and a few signs of frustration crept in as they anticipated a second half battling against the wind. The Archers went in at the break 2–0 up and ready for a gritty defensive display.

At half-time, Gruff Morgan replaced the injured Matthew Chubb and immediately set the tone with several towering headers against Bala’s 6’6 number nine, Mehasseb. Alongside the rest of the back five, Morgan was immense as Met weathered the conditions and restricted Bala to very few chances.

John and Reynolds worked tirelessly to pick up second balls, while the forwards and wing-backs ran themselves into the ground. It was a complete team performance - disciplined, determined, and deserving of a second successive clean sheet.

Cardiff Met now turn their attention to Tuesday night’s trip west to newly promoted Llanelli Town, where they’ll look to make it three wins from three and continue their climb up the Cymru Premier table.
