SUNDAY TESTS FOR YELLAMEN AND WOMEN #WeAreAscot
Followers to divide and conquer on Sunday afternoon
Ascot United and Ascot United Women are both in action on Sunday afternoon – and both face big matches!
Kicking off at 3pm, The Yellamen travel to Chichester City FC’s ground to face Bognor Regis Town (3pm) in league action; the hosts temporarily relocating due to work on their pitch. So, don’t set your SatNavs for the Rocks’ stadium, you need to be heading to Oaklands Park, Oaklands Way, Chichester PO19 6AR!
The Rocks were relegated from Step-three last season and find themselves in a spot of bother early into their Step-four campaign, lying second-bottom with just four points from eight games, although seven of those matches have been away from home.
Sunday’s game will also be the first competitive match at Oaklands Park since the tragic death of City striker Billy Vigar, and the Rocks have announced all profits from the club shop and half-time raffle will go to Billy’s fundraiser, here. There will also be a bucket collection in the ground.
Ascot, meanwhile, come into the game off the back of two hugely impressive performances against South Park and Harrow, which yielded six points, and adjusting for games played boast just about the meanest defence in the league.
But one hour before the Men’s kick off Ascot United Women start their Adobe Women’s FA Cup campaign at North Greenford-based Actonians (2pm). This is the third and final qualifying round before the first round proper, and Andy Cox’s side were handed a tough draw given that there are teams from steps four to seven in the competition, and they have been drawn away to a fellow step four outfit.
Whilst the Yellawomen are fast-finding their feet in the National League South-West Division, they will find this one tough against a side who are mid-table in the South-East section and also beat Maidenhead United in the league cup by the same margin as Ascot did in the league two weekends ago.
Match reporting this weekend will be somewhat tricky – but primary reporting will be from Actonians with a back-up report via our men on the ground in Chichester!
