Battling City come home empty-handed.

City were hoping to pick up from where they left off last Sunday, after coming away from Sixways with a 2-0 victory over their local rivals Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Women’s National League Cup, thanks to second-half goals from skipper Jessica Fassnidge and centre back Carys Lowley.

Five minutes into the game, it was the hosts who had the first effort; however, Jodie Whiteman held onto the shot comfortably.

Three minutes later, City had their first goal attempt, after Annie Sime hit one from distance, which forced Boldmere’s keeper to make a save down to her right.

The hosts had three opportunities in a matter of minutes, with two efforts going wide of the post and one overhead kick that forced Whiteman into a comfortable save.

Boldmere’s pressure paid off after a 24th-minute strike into the top right-hand corner, with Whiteman helpless in the City net.

Just before the half hour, the hosts had a chance down the left-hand side and forced Whiteman into a decent save.

In the 38th minute, Whiteman made an outstanding save after the Mikes got in behind down the left-hand side.

Two minutes before the break, City were level, after Jessica Fassnidge played in game changer Annie Highway, who lashed it into the top corner.

In stoppage time at the end of the first half, the Mikes retook the lead after a ball was placed into the bottom right-hand corner.

Into the second half, and the hosts had the first attempt of the half; however, it was no trouble for Whiteman.

In the 64th minute, Highway turned and shot, but her effort went wide of the post.

In the 77th minute, Highway played a delicious ball into the box, but Nyah Edwards mistimed the connection and missed the ball.

Ten minutes later, the hosts added their third of the contest after an initial save fell to the striker, who made no mistake from close range.

Next up, City welcome Peterborough United to Sixways on Sunday, 21st September, with kick-off at 2:00 pm
