Brooklyn Genesini recently made his return to Weymouth. The 23-year-old having previously spent the 2024/25 season with the south coast club. Relegation and Genesini’s departure went hand in hand, however, the two have reunited in the Southern League.

Many players speak very highly of Weymouth, the strong community ties and close-knit feel. Genesini spoke on the excitement surrounding his return, crediting “the fans, players, and the manager” for welcoming him back with open arms.

Following his exit upon the conclusion of last season, the former Bournemouth academy star found it difficult to instantly find a new club. Eventually signing for Dorchester in mid-August. After a handful of appearances for the Magpies, it was the lure of Steve Claridge that attracted Genesini back to the Terras.

“I feel like with the new gaffer coming in and having a chat with him it really gave me a sense of excitement. I couldn’t really say no after that.”

Despite being just 23, Genesini has significant experience in the game. Scoring a late winner for AFC Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, spending time out on loan from the Cherries in Denmark, winning the National League South with Yeovil and spending a season with League Two Swindon Town. The returning Terra spoke on this:

“I’ve had lots of experience now which I was really eager to gain in the earlier stages of my career. To gain as much as I have done by the age of 23 really helps me to be better myself and to help the team out to the best of my ability.”

As mentioned, a league win in the National League South alongside around 50 appearances at the second highest level of non-league, Genesini, like Weymouth, is keen to make a swift return to step six of the footballing pyramid.

“That’s exactly what I want to do, I was speaking to the gaffer and he really emphasised that he wants to get the club back to how it should really be. And I absolutely want to be a part of that success.”

Weymouth have a new-look squad this season, just four members of the 2024/25 season squad started last time out against Hanwell Town. However, Genesini highlights that it has been a seamless return back into the team dynamic.

“The squad has changed a lot, but the gaffer has an idea and he’s not afraid to make it happen. I think considering there are only 4 of us from last season, we have really jelled. Especially in the second half, you can see good things are going to come!”

Genesini has primarily been a right-back throughout his career, however, he credits his physical development as a key reason why he is now able to be utilised across the pitch.

“I think it’s really good and helpful in anyone’s game to be versatile but that also happened with me because as I got older I got stronger and quicker so it opened up different positions for me.”

Weymouth currently sit in the relegation zone, further continuing a long-standing residence at the bottom-end of the table. However, Genesini feels there are lessons to be learned from the side’s demotion in the spring.

I feel we can be more together and believe in ourselves, I felt last season we let it slip away from us which meant we lost belief and hope. This affected us on the field as much as it did off of it.

Genesini curtailed the interview by singing the praises of the Weymouth fanbase, who help to give a “spike of energy and belief” to the team.

“The fans mean everything to us and are just as important to any other person working at the club, whether that’s a player, the board or manger.

A favourite on the terraces too, Genesini will be hoping to reignite that spark with the fans:

“So I’m looking forward to hearing my song from the fans which I of course cannot repeat!”
