Fresh from their first win of the season, City welcome Leafield to Sixways on Sunday.

Leafield Athletic

Leafield play their home games at Castle Vale Stadium in Birmingham and are managed by Tasha Tezgel. Since the COVID pandemic, they have made strides in establishing themselves as an FAWNL club by finishing in 9th position in three consecutive seasons, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2023/2024.

Last season, Leafield finished 4th in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands (FAWNL), winning 16 games and losing only 6 times in twenty-two matches, accumulating 48 points in the process. Evangeline Gallop was the league’s second top goal scorer last campaign after she netted nineteen times in nineteen appearances.

This season, Leafield have won their opening two league games, at Northampton 1-0 and 2-1 against Sheffield last Sunday at home. They also drew at home against Leicester City Academy 1-1 in the FA Women’s National League Cup last week.

Last Time Out

City put in an excellent display at Sixways after battling to secure a 1-0 victory against Sutton Coldfield Town.

Annie Highway put a deep cross in the box in the 38th minute to the back post, where captain Jess Fassnidge was there to head home from close range.

Meanwhile, at Castle Vale Stadium, Leafield beat newly promoted Sheffield FC 2-1 thanks to goals from Hannah Fishwick and second-half substitute Evangeline Gallop.

Previous Meetings

City lost both times against Leafield last season, firstly in September at Castle Vale Stadium, where City succumbed to a 4-1 defeat.

Defender Shona Baldwin scored the only goal for the visitors, but an Abi Cowie strike and a hat-trick from Hannah Fishwick ensured the hosts were awarded the three points.

Leafield ensured a league double over City in the reverse fixture at Sixways back in January, coming away with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Abi Cowie, Cheyanne Jarvis, and Ella Bryan.
