Barry Town United - 25.08.2025 - Match Report
After a 2-2 comeback draw against Haverfordwest on Friday evening Met went into the game having drawn their first three games of the season while visitors Barry Town suffered late heartbreak as they lost 3-2 against Penybont at Jenner Park.
The visitors started the game with a high tempo approach but it was Met who asked the first question in the 10th minute, Mwandwe appeared to be tripped in the box but the referee waved away the appeals much to the winger's frustration.
Midway through the first half it was Barry's turn to threaten after some good build up play, however Ieuan Owen dragged his long range effort wide of the near post.
Minutes later Owen had a great chance to put the visitors ahead, George found Hulbert in behind the Met defence and the former Archers player drilled a low cross across the six yard box however Owen was unable to turn the ball home.
After a disappointing first half, Met started to gain a measure of control and some excellent build up play led to a chance for Fumpa Mwandwe, a cross from Payne was flicked on by Sam Jones but Mwandwe was unable to keep his close-range volley under the crossbar.
10 minutes into the second half, Ryan Reynolds unleashed a trademark long-range strike which Ratcliffe tipped just wide of the post with the Barry defence clearing the resulting corner.
With 63 minutes on the clock, the deadlock was finally broken after some sharp interplay through the midfield allowed Harri John to shoot goalward, Ratcliffe saved but Sam Jones was on hand to sweep in the rebound and give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Barry immediately looked to restore parity and Absalom had to be at his best to deny Hulbert a goal, parrying away a vicious half-volley from the Barry striker.
The visitors continued to press forward looking for a crucial equaliser and once again it was stoppage time misery for the Archers, Robbie Wilmott receiving a pass in the Met area before firing a left foot drive into the corner of the net in the 92nd minute and ensure the spoils were shared in front of a crowd of 495.
